The power of our words

It can be difficult to always be kind with our words.  No one on this earth is above that statement.  However, being aware of the power of our spoken word can lead us to not only process our thoughts through our minds, but to also process our thoughts through our hearts before the words ever leave our lips.  We have an unbelievable influence on the people around us whether we know them personally or they are a complete stranger.

In the field of Caregiving, our words are especially powerful.  As our motto says, “When family can’t, We can”. It is unmeasurably important that we be compassionate, empathetic and walk into a client’s home with a heart ready to serve.  This is not just a job, it is a calling.  We are there to make their lives easier and offer a sense of fulfillment.  We are not only caregivers, we are companions.  We are not only doing a job, we are building a relationship with each and every client and their families who have trusted us with the care of their loved one.

Speak kindly and gently.  See and hear with your heart.  Let your words be uplifting, encouraging and meaningful.  Be understanding when a client is frustrated or aggravated.  You have the power to influence change simply with your words.  Let your client know you are there to serve them.  Let them know you see that they are a human being with the same needs as yourself.  As their caregiver, you may just become their closest friend.
